Created in memory of Jim Jenkel (a valued Pearl employee who suddenly passed away the evening of the Pearl Christmas Party in 1992), this highly esteemed award is presented in his honor during the holiday luncheon.

Pat Venditte, a name synonymous with versatility in baseball, has carved a niche for himself as one of the most unique players in the sport’s history. Known for his rare ability to pitch with both arms, Venditte’s ambidextrous skills not only set him apart but also led to the creation of a special rule in Major League Baseball, aptly named the “Pat Venditte Rule.” This rule requires ambidextrous pitchers to declare which hand they will use to pitch to a batter before the at-bat starts, ensuring fair play and strategy.

On Saturday, October 19, Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois held its 16th annual Stand Down for Homeless and At-Risk Veterans. This event is free for veterans, and they receive winter clothing (coats, boots, gloves, hats, etc.), along with services such as haircuts, health screenings, flu shots, diabetic care, and hygiene products. The veterans also receive information and support on topics such as veterans’ benefits, mental health, maintaining sobriety, legal guidance, and medical issues.
