Rob Judd—Ensuring Secure Physical and Cloud Storage at Our Data Centers

As the manager of data center operations at Pearl Technology, Rob Judd oversees and monitors our two data centers. That includes supervising their various infrastructure systems, like power, cooling, surveillance, security, mechanics, and IT operations.

How He Serves

An experienced IT professional with nearly 25 years of experience, Rob works out of the data center in Bloomington. He helped design and build both data centers and has managed their operations since 2001. He’s proud to say they have been operating with 100% uptime.

The Pearl Technology data centers securely house expensive equipment in the best environment possible to ensure businesses stay up and running, even if a disaster occurs. So, whether businesses choose the Pearl Cloud to run applications on our equipment or colocation to house their systems off site, it’s the best way to ensure IT infrastructures are secure. In simple terms, Rob makes sure everything remains operational and runs smoothly.

Rob has a wealth of experience that helps him do his job well. A founder of A5—a private cloud, hosting, and data center services company—he joined Pearl Technology when A5 and CIAN were acquired in 2019. Rob also maintained CIAN’s custom security information and event management (SIEM) application on contract for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, within the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Prior to A5, Rob worked with earlier incarnations of the business under the names of RMI.net and Dave’s World since 1997. Quite the entrepreneur, Rob is also a founder of BroadOps LLC, where he created broadband control routers that were sold to multi-dwelling unit complexes, along with their central monitoring and controls. Rob also built and managed multiple Cluster environments and wrote numerous software applications.

What Motivates Him

Listening to Rob’s experience and stories, it’s easy to draw the conclusion he loves variety… and the bigger the challenge, the better.

“Operating data centers involves multiple disciplines and technologies,” he explained. “It’s a rapidly evolving industry that never gets old or boring.”

Rob seeks to expand our data center infrastructure and services in the future. “It’s difficult to predict where the IT world will go, but the amount of data generated and stored continues to increase explosively every year. I believe there will always be a need for secure physical and cloud storage and security services.”

“I love what I do and the people I work with,” Rob continued. “Pearl Technology has good teams with sharp people. Challenging projects keep us continuously learning and staying current with what’s happening in the industry.”

What Sustains Him

Rob lives with his girlfriend in Bloomington and has two kids—one studying computer science at Lehigh University and the other in second grade. The two have a 13-pound Maine Coon, one of the largest domestic cat breeds. They would also have dogs, but the cat would not be compatible with them.

Not surprisingly, Rob has many hobbies and outside interests. He loves spending time with his family and enjoys (get ready, the list is long, and you might need a dictionary!) cooking, nutrition science, musical instruments, building large high-voltage devices, nuclear physics and inertial electrostatic confinement (IEC) fusion, science and engineering, astrophysics, foreign languages, jet engines, trebuchets, history and megalithic architecture, programming, embedded systems, cryptology, gaming, beer, machinery, blacksmithing, metal work, and woodworking.

Rob also loves to run in ultramarathons. “Runners are notorious for making sure everyone knows they run. I’m a compulsive polymath, too. I have to know how everything works, from the subatomic level up.”
