STEM Academy to Address Cybersecurity June 13-17

STEM Academy to Address Cybersecurity: Applications Now Being Accepted!

This year’s STEM Academy will educate students about cybersecurity on June 13-17, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Goodwill Commons in Peoria. This year’s Academy will meet in person and offer middle school students (6th-8th grade) the opportunity to learn from industry experts.

Capture the Flag

The theme for this year’s STEM Academy is “Capture the Flag,” which may make kids think of the physical game of running to the middle of the field to grab another team’s flag, but this experience will be much different! Middle school students will learn how hackers get into systems and how to defend against attacks. They’ll also learn how to avoid danger in social media and phishing campaigns, as well as the use of tools such as password managers and multifactor authentication.

The academy will culminate with a cyber competition (Capture the Flag) where students will apply the skills they have learned and solve problems, “capture” the flag from their opponents and earn points.

This Year’s Sponsors

The STEM Academy is the result of the collaboration of Pearl Technology, Richwood Township, Caterpillar, and University of Illinois Extension.
