As a senior AV design engineer with Pearl Technology, Gerry Gallegos, CTS, CTS-D, is responsible for creating AutoCAD drawings to support projects and installations.
How He Serves
Gerry works with Pearl Tech’s AV Solutions team from his home office in Houston, Texas, where “I pretty much live in front of AutoCAD all day.”
During a typical day, Jeremy Caldera provides specs and initial project designs, then Gerry turns them into computer-aided design (CAD) to meet industry standards, along with creating deliverable packages.
What His Experience Means
Prior to joining the team at Pearl Technology in 2021, Gerry worked in an AV design engineering role with different companies since 2009. For more than 32 years, he’s been working in the commercial audiovisual industry—including roles in sales, installation, and design engineering—and brings diverse experience to his current position.
“Pearl Tech’s innovative leadership and design got me interested in the company,” Gerry said. “And I’m open to new work methodology paradigms, so it seemed to be a good fit.”
Gerry has been an AVIXA Certified Training Specialist (CTS) since 2006 and became a Certified Technology Specialist Designer (CTS-D) a few years ago. In addition to his extensive product training and manufacturer certifications, Gerry also has a claim to fame. As a very successful recording engineer, he worked on a few Grammy-nominated albums too.
“I believe my CAD drawings and standards help provide thorough design instructions for our installation team,” Gerry continued. “And that helps ensure successful project completion for our clients. What I love most about my career is when I can provide creative solutions to our clients—situations where they didn’t think a solution could be achieved, but I helped provide an innovative design that resolved the issue.”
Gerry believes as the company’s projects and work expand, there will be a healthy, natural growth that occurs. “It also helps to have a good management team. They make the work easy because they don’t micromanage or get in the way. They trust your input to provide solutions that can contribute to growth.”
What Sustains Him
Gerry says caffeine gets him through the days. He also lives by the motto, “Always be kind, listen first, and leave your ego at the door.”
He lives with his wife, Laura. The couple has two cats (a Siamese and a Russian Blue) and a Jack Russell Terrier named “Cheedos.”
“My hobby is to collect hobbies. I have a hobby machine shop in my garage. In my free time, I love riding motorcycles and taking our fifth-wheel RV out on the road. I also love to mix music projects when I can.”
When asked if he had anything else to add, Gerry said, “Han Solo shot first—Greedo is innocent!” He’s obviously a movie fan too.
