As a systems administrator with Pearl Technology Nick McCance is responsible for fixing issues that occur in clients’ IT infrastructure and providing guidance for system improvements.
How He Serves
Nick works with IT Solutions out of the Peoria Heights (Toledo) office. During a typical day, he fields client emails, calls, and tickets regarding current issues or future implementations. Nick helps to implement new systems and processes for clients, which can improve their overall infrastructure. He also provides clients with insight so they can keep their systems running smoothly.
“I help clients with projects involving email migrations, cloud infrastructure setup, and implementation of two-factor authentication mechanisms, along with other solutions,” Nick explained.
What His Experience Means | Pearl Technology Nick NcCance
Prior to joining the team at Pearl Technology in August 2021, Nick worked as an IT technician for a large call center in downtown Peoria. He says the opportunity to expand his skills and provide great services to customers in the area drew him to apply.
“My previous experience dealt more with enterprise environments and the tools that come along with those,” Nick said. “Though most of our clients may not be as large as some I worked with before, my prior job brings a new perspective to our current clients’ environments.”
A graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, Nick has an associate degree in information technology. Nick has also received seven certificates while working at Pearl Tech. This training deals with Barracuda’s suite of products, including their email gateway, backup solutions, encryption services, incident response, and impersonation detection systems.
Pearl Technology Nick McCance truly enjoys his work there. “Every day is different, and I get to develop positive relationships with local business owners and their employees. Working in the IT field always requires ongoing learning, and Pearl Tech is no exception. Working with so many diverse needs and infrastructures has taught me that documentation is paramount because it helps keep the entire team informed about our clients’ infrastructures.”
Nick’s passion is helping clients streamline their processes. He tells the story of how he accomplished this for one client: “They had many access control issues with their files and no real IT processes set up. I was able to help them get processes in place, sort through their access control issues, and assist them in migrating their file infrastructure to a cloud platform that allowed them to access and share files more easily. This helped them tremendously in streamlining their day-to-day operations.”
As someone who likes to recommend automation when it comes to any process improvements or tedious activities, Nick believes he can contribute to Pearl Tech’s growth. “I see Pearl Technology expanding outside our initial goal of being the go-to IT provider for Central Illinois. I believe Pearl Tech will expand its geographical reach into other communities and regions.”
What Sustains Him
“Coffee gets me through the day,” Nick said, “And, of course, knowing that we are helping our clients achieve their desired goals for information technology.”
Nick lives with his wife, two daughters, two cats, and a dog in Elmwood. In his spare time, he enjoys watching movies with his oldest daughter, PC gaming, and watching hockey, specifically the Chicago Blackhawks.
