Michael Robinson—Helping to Lead and Keep Clients’ AV Projects on Track

As a Lead AV Technician working with Audiovisual Solutions at Pearl Technology, Michael (Mike) Robinson provides leadership for the technicians on job sites, keeps everyone on task, and answers any questions the team might have.

How He Serves

Working from Pearl Technology’s headquarters in Peoria Heights, Mike’s typical day could involve looking over job details and collaborating with the team on what is needed to accomplish their tasks.  After that, Mike may head to a job site to install audio and video equipment with the assigned team. He also communicates with sales, design, and the director of operations about on-site details, issues, and accomplishments.

“I feel my leadership experience, temperament, and personality mesh well with Pearl Technology’s team,” Mike said. “We all work together well, and I have acquired many teaching skills that help the team. In addition, my ambition and search for continual growth within the company help us achieve our goals together.”

Mike previously lived and worked in the greater Seattle area. He and his family decided to relocate to central Illinois to be closer to their family here.

“Pearl Technology fit perfectly with my career experience,” Mike added. “I enjoy being a part of a well-functioning team. We work together to meet and surpass client expectations, and we always strive to enhance their experiences with our installed AV systems.”

What His Experience Means

Before joining the team at Pearl Technology in March, Mike worked within the audio-visual industry for over a decade.

“I worked in a variety of AV roles for companies in Seattle and California,” Mike said. “In my prior position, I was Lead Technician and performed installs of AV equipment for video conferencing. In that role, I was a troubleshooter for service calls and administrative duties, such as month-end reports.”

Mike is educated and experienced in audio editing and engineering. As an EL06 Journeyman, he’s also trained to read and redline drawings, which is key to installing AV equipment. He’s also experienced in using a variety of power tools.

“Seeing jobs through to completion is important to me,” he said. “I love taking a hands-on role in achieving our clients’ satisfaction with any installations we do. That’s what it’s all about.”

Mike received two technical degrees (digital audio engineering and musical instrument digital interface) from Shoreline Community College in Washington, where he studied audio production from 2009-2012. He then spent 6 years in live AV setups and production before transitioning to installation in 2018.

In addition to his AV education, Mike is certified in OSHA-30 (national) and certified as a low-voltage electrician in Washington. Mike is currently studying to become a Certified Technology Specialist (CTS).

“I am familiar with signal flow for audio and video equipment, and I’m able to make quick decisions when troubleshooting. I also have experience with many brands and models of AV equipment, as well as live sound expertise and recording and editing.”

What Sustains Him

Mike and his family live in the Peoria area. “My fiancée and I have been together for eight years. We were best friends for five years before that.” The two live with their daughter and a 3-year-old Rott/Husky/Aussie hound mix named Rocky.

“In my free time, I enjoy being a dad and taking my daughter to the movies,” he said. “I’m also a music lover. My hobbies include playing guitar and piano, along with creating vocals and music.”
