As Vice President of Accounting at Pearl Technology, Tyler Greenman, CPA, is responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting functions at the company. His primary responsibility is to strengthen the company’s financial operations and scale capabilities across the region.
How He Serves
Tyler joined the team last December and works in the Peoria Heights headquarters. His days are spent diving into financial transactions, ensuring everything is recorded and classified correctly. He provides the details to the executive team, so they can make informed decisions and guide the business into the future.
“Fortunately, I have an experienced team that understands the ins and outs of our daily operations,” Tyler said. “They do an excellent job of keeping everything moving. As I’ve stepped into this role, my goal has been to support them in the good work they’re already doing and eliminate any pain points or bottlenecks in the process.”
Of course, no days are the same. “Some are very technical, while others are highly strategic… and others are spent putting out fires. There is a consistent, monthly rhythm to the work that provides stability, but once those duties are handled, anything goes.”
He believes it’s critical to maintain a strong financial backbone to support the business as it accelerates into the next era.
What His Experience Means
Tyler has served in a variety of roles: as a chief executive officer, chief financial officer, director of finance, and more. He brings 25+ years of experience, discipline, and a forward-looking mindset to his new position. Tyler has a bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s degree in accounting. He is also a licensed CPA.
“When I was talking with different people, I heard a lot of buzzwords about synergy, work-life balance, and culture. At first, I didn’t hear any of those words about Pearl Technology. Instead, people gave me real examples of flexibility and growth potential here. Many mentioned how much Pearl Technology values its people, so it was precisely the opportunity I was seeking.”
Tyler loves the challenge of his work, combined with the flexibility of Pearl Technology’s culture. “It’s a fun and exciting place to work. At the same time, we have real work to do that makes a difference and solves real problems. I hope to contribute to the company’s growth by establishing a clear baseline of where we currently are as a company, eliminating as much friction as possible so our people are better able to do their jobs, and providing a solid foundation for our other departments and leadership team to have the confidence to move forward and take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way.”
He believes Pearl Tech will grow quickly. “The many ways we serve businesses in need of IT, AV, data, and cybersecurity solutions put us in a strong position to help other organizations continue to innovate and scale. More specifically, I see our accounting and finance team keeping pace with our technologically sophisticated colleagues by becoming a cutting-edge department of super accountants who fully utilize all the tools available.”
Always learning, Tyler says much of his job involves confronting an issue and using the team’s skills, experience, and research to determine the best solution. “I’d say my favorite thing so far is just how important the people are to the company and its leadership. I’ve seen decisions made that make little economic sense but were handled differently because it was the right thing to do. That’s a rarity today.”
Tyler sees his accomplishments as a gift. “I’ve been blessed with opportunities from people who saw potential in me and challenged me to grow into a better version of myself. When you combine that with a strong support system, it’s hard to feel like you did any of it alone. Rather, I believe I’ve been blessed, and I’m incredibly grateful.”
What Sustains Him
Tyler’s motivation is threefold: becoming the person he was created to be through his work, using his talents to serve others, and providing for his family. His philosophy is “memento mori,” a classic Latin phrase that means remember you must die. “It sounds rather morbid, but the point is to keep all things in perspective, stay humble, and focus on what truly matters.”
Originally from Denver, Colorado, Tyler and his wife recently moved back to the Peoria area to be closer to family. His wife, Laura, is originally from Washington, Illinois. The two have five children: four daughters and one son.
“After my wife and I started having children, we traded many of our individual interests for family ones. We now enjoy cooking together, riding bikes, dancing, singing, and spending time with our extended family. My wife and I also greatly value our time after the kids go to bed and often find ourselves watching one of our favorite TV shows, Survivor, when it’s in season. Otherwise, I’ll sneak away for a round of disc golf whenever I can.”
Tyler isn’t like so many in his profession who seem to prefer working in isolation rather than interacting with people. “That’s not me. I enjoy meeting new people, listening to their thoughts, and hearing their stories.”
